An idea for a soft toy and other things

I had an idea yesterday for a soft toy and I’ve been turning it over in my head. I think I’ve worked out the kinks mentally. Since I’m not selling things anymore I’ll make one for one of my granddaughters (both, if the older one likes it) and share pictures so people can copy if they like. It’s not specifically Orthodox in nature, but I think it will make a great quiet toy for church.

This morning I went to the store and purchased some garden soil and a few plants. I wanted to get vinca because it’s the only flowering plant that I’ve managed to keep alive in a super-shady spot with iffy drainage. It also has to withstand extreme and unrelenting heat. We’re not there yet, but it’s coming. Unfortunately, there was no vinca. In the meantime I purchased some caladium. Almost everything else they had required full-sun. I didn’t want to run all the way over to Lowe’s but I might have to at some point. I also put out yet more fire-ant poison. Sigh.

I needed a completely mindless, yet satisfying hand-project after Pascha so I gathered up odds and ends of wool yarn and I’m making random granny squares for an eventual blanket. It’s peaceful and uses up scraps.
